Winning Her Heart Back (Emelie Hoven) Chapter 116

Chapter 116 She Can’t Seem to Leam How to De Witty

Emelle composed herself. She messaged some friends on WhatsApp, asking for recommendations on local law firms…

Luckily, she had maintained good relationships over the years. Some friends were willing to help her within their means.

One friend, River, recommended the Starlight Law Firm.

“Ashley Thornton, she’s a formidable female lawyer. She rarely loses cases, criminal or civil

“Last week, she dealt with a medical disturbance assault case. The defendant managed to receive only the minimum sentence

Enelle replied, “Thank you. I’ll look for her tomorrow.”

That night, she stayed home, sleeping in her old bed.

Beside the bed, a framed photo showed their family of five. Of the five, only Emelie and her critically ill mother remained.

Emelie didn’t sleep much that night.

The next day, Eliana came to take over looking after Greta.

Before leaving, Emelie instructed her to watch over Greta vigilantly.

Greta had mentioned suicide yesterday. Emelie feared she might do something rash in this state.

Eliana promised she wouldn’t leave Greta’s side.

Emelle took a cab to the Starlight Law Firm.

Her friend had given them a heads–up. So she was shown to Ashley’s office after telling the receptionist she wanted to see Ashley.

“Ms. Thomton is still meeting with a client in the conference room. Please have a seat. I’ll get you some water.

“Okay, thank you.”

Emelle didn’t wait long. Fifteen minutes later, the door opened.

The woman who entered seemed only around thirty years old. She was clad in a deep blue suit and wore her hair in a simple low ponytail.

Yet even such a no–nonsense appearance could not conceal her striking beauty. The captivating mole beneath her eye somehow elevated her appearance. She was pretty, with an intellectual charm

Emelie stood up. “You must be Ms. Thomton. I’m Emelie. River highly recommends you.”

Ashley shook her hand, then gestured for her to sit.

“Yes, I’m Ashley Thornton River briefed me on your situation, but I’m not clear on the details. Could you elaborate?”

She went straight to the point. Emelie didn’t beat around the bush, recounting the whole story.

Ashley gave little reaction throughout, occasionally nodding to indicate she was listening. Only after Emelie finished did she respond.

“When judges decide on a sentence, they weigh the laws involved along with the unique details of the case. Your father’s circumstances are genuinely unfortunate.

“It will help if the nurse and hospital forgive him and convey through a letter seelding leniency. That would greatly increase the judge’s likelihood of a light

sentence.”

Emelie frowned. “How light could the sentence be?”

“Detention. But whether it’s three or six months depends on the judge’s decision,” Ashley said.

“Don’t worry. I will do my best to help you with this case.”

Ashley’s lack of words and sympathy oddly comforted Emelie.

Emelle relaxed and said sincerely, Thank you, Ms. Thomton.”

Ashley handed her a glass of water, “Don’t mention it. I did charge you for my legal expertise, didn’t 1?”

Emelie took the glass of water and expressed her gratitude.

From Emelle’s reaction, Ashley concluded her attempt at humor fell flat.

Well, she couldn’t make witty remarks

Ashley reverted to her normal professional manner and stood up. “Let me walk
