Chapter 40
Alpha Nick’s mind was clouded after upsetting Charlotte, and he kept running deeper into the woods. Growing tired, he wanted to communicate with his wolf but thought of a better idea.
Already deep in the woods, he undressed himself before shifting, allowing his wolf to take him further and further away.
Charlotte was his mate, the only woman he wanted, but he couldn’t understand why he was so upset because she went to his room.
It was fine that after the divorce, they marked and mated, making it her right, but why was he suddenly distant after getting what he wanted? Alpha Nick could not understand.
‘Titan, what is happening to me? I’ve hurt my mate. I yelled at her.‘ Alpha Nick sought solace with his wolf, but the latter was slightly reluctant before responding as he dashed into the woods with speed.
‘I don’t know why you did that, but I’m not remorseful.”
It suddenly dawned on Alpha Nick about the root of his problems. ‘Oh, it was you. Titan, why did control without my permission? You should be excited to meet her wolf.’

Titan was still not remorseful for doing what he did, knowing that Alpha Nick wouldn’t have the guts. “Sadly, I’m not. I feel happy with Sheila. Besides, you were already upset by what she did. I only took over to tell her what was on your heart.‘
What was on his heart? Alpha Nick was finding it difficult to understand that part. He might not like anyone entering his room, but it was over between him and Sheila, so why was he upset, and why was what Titan did

‘But Sheila is not our mate,‘ he thought to remind his wolf to clear the air.
‘I know, but there is something about our mate that repels me,‘ Titan revealed. Alpha Nick was shocked. This was the first time he heard about a wolf being repelled by its mate. Usually, they would rather find the scent of their mate irresistible and would always want to be with her.
At least, that was how it was the first time he met Charlotte. ‘What is that?‘ Alpha Nick asked, but Titan’s answer gave him no clue or comfort.

‘I don’t know. I can’t put a finger on it.”
‘Then you should meet her wolf, Alpha Nick suggested. Titan revealed,
“I tried to communicate with her, but she wouldn’t come out.‘

‘Why?‘ Alpha Nick was perplexed. Ever since Charlotte’s return, he has been trying to love her like before, but something seemed to be standing in his way. Something he did not have a name or explanation for.
“She seems afraid of something, Titan replied. Alpha Nick sighed,
‘Let’s go back to the pack. I need to apologize to her.’
When Titan returned to where Alpha Nick had hung his clothes on a tree, Alpha Nick shifted to human form and wore his clothes before continuing the rest of the journey on foot, running to the pack house.
His only intention was to apologize to Charlotte, but he was surprised to see her sitting on the sofa with Athena.
It was like a cat and mouse seated together, and Alpha Nick could not help the discomfort creeping through his
heart.
His mother never liked Charlotte, so why were they together? It would be nice to know that his mother had suddenly developed a liking for Charlotte, and his heart warmed at the thought.
Before he could say anything, his mother announced, “Nick, since your divorce is complete, it’s time to give me grandchildren. I already moved Charlotte’s things to your room.”
Alpha Nick felt as if the ground he stood on was spinning. “Mom, you did what?”
Though he wanted to apologize to Charlotte, he had no intention of moving her to his room just yet. Then again, he felt like his mother was joking. She might just be saying it to get him upset because he had gone ahead to divorce Sheila against her wish.
Athena was as direct as always, not holding anything back. Since Alpha Nick loved his mate so much to let a good woman go, she had no intention of making it easy for him.
“You heard me. You and your mate living in separate rooms is a complete waste of the pack’s resources.”
Alpha Nick frowned at his mother’s analysis. If there were a shortage of rooms in the pack house, Alpha Nick

could single–handedly build a bigger one or expand the current one.
Also, as the Alpha, he was entitled to all rooms with the exception of that of his parents.
“Mom, I am the Alpha of this pack,” he gave a subtle reminder.

Athena smiled a little. She was in a great mood to torment her son. “Yes, but unlike most packs, your father is still alive, so we have fewer rooms. I gave my room to Sheila because you were only using her to wait for your mate. Now that your mate is here, she has to share your room.”
Alpha Nick was not liking the idea. He was so exhausted, and having Charlotte next to him, he doubted that he would have a good night’s sleep.
“Mom, even if Sheila were here, Charlotte could still have a room to herself, and there are still a lot of vacant rooms. Í need my privacy for now,” he stated clearly, but Athena was well prepared for this banter.

“Then how do you plan to give the pack an heir? Or did you forget your responsibilities?”
Alpha Nick stiffened, awed by his mother’s sudden support for his being with Charlotte. Was it because Sheila
was gone? “Mom, please, I have a headache. Let’s talk about this later, but as for today, I want to sleep alone.”
Athena felt sweetness in her heart. It was just as she predicted. Alpha Nick was unaware that Sheila had stolen
something from him. She only hoped that he would not realize the missing part of himself too late.
To push him into thinking deeper, she insisted. “Then her belongings would remain in your room.”
Alpha Nick frowned deeply, cursing his mother internally for putting him on the spot and making things so difficult for him.
“Wait, you mean you moved her things to my room already?”
“Did your run affect your ears? Your mate is a part of you, so her things are in your room. It’s just what I’ve been saying from the beginning.”
Alpha Nick was greatly displeased, and Charlotte was beginning to fear. It was strange that things didn’t turn out like she wanted it to be after the divorce.
However, she saw an opportunity and decided to hang on to it, thereby interrupting the banter between the mother and.son.

“Ma’am, it’s alright. I will get the maids to move out Sheila’s things. I will move to the Luna’s chamber instead.”
Athena’s expression changed, and just as she was about to refuse, Alpha Nick roared, “No. Nob*dy touches her things.” Everyone was shocked.
