A saleswoman immediately replied, “The keychain in your hand is a masterpiece by a renowned designer, Oswald Rehbein. Well, thanks for telling us you can afford it. I guess it’s not expensive at all for you. It’s only six thousand dollars.”
Maria was stunned, thinking, ‘Oswald?‘
Maria opened her hand and lowered her head to look at the fluffy kitten keychain. She was surprised, murmuring, ‘He did it‘
The two saleswomen had a different interpretation of Maria’s shocked expression.
“Yeah. I’ve told you. She can’t afford it.”
“Oops. It looks like someone gets into an embarrassing dilemma.” They mocked and viewed Maria as a joke.
Maria wanted to buy Oswald’s design. However, six thousand dollars were too much for her. She thought, ‘I can’t afford it.’
While Maria struggled to make a decision, the wind chimes hanging on the doorway rang.
Someone pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing the guest, the two saleswomen immediately smiled and greeted, “Hi, Miss Allen. Welcome to our store.”
A woman with long, wavy hair adorned in designer labels entered. Maria glanced over, and their eyes happened to meet. Both were shocked by the unexpected encounter.
The woman dressed in designer labels recognized Maria and cried surprisingly, “Maria?”
Maria recognized the woman as well. It was Maria’s high school classmate, Grace Allen. She was the prettiest girl in
Maria’s class.
A saleswoman walked to Grace and pleased her, saying, “Miss Allen, we’ve got some new dolls. They’re all created by famous designers, including Oswald Rehbein. Shall I take them over for you?”
Grace smirked and said, “Sounds good.” Her gaze was locked on Maria.
Grace looked at Maria’s sportswear and realized Maria was doing so much worse than her. Thus, Grace raised her head proudly and said generously, “If this lady finds any dolls she likes, I’ll cover the bill.” She intentionally made the statement to convey her generosity, aiming to influence people’s perceptions of her.
Maria lowered her head and stared at the keychain in her hand. She struggled for a while. Then, she hung it back and replied, “No, thanks.”
Grace raised her hand to show the white sapphire bracelet on her wrist and pulled back her hair, saying, “It’s all right. It’s just a keychain. Take it as a gift from me.”
She glanced at Maria and continued with a smile, “We were classmates. I’m happy to give gifts to my old friends. Just don’t steal anything that you like.”
Maria was stunned and glared at Grace.
Grace acted like she realized she had said something wrong. She raised her hand with bright red fingernails to cover her mouth, apologizing, “Oh my God. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said you were once a thief.”

Maria clenched her fists and corrected coldly, frowning, “I did not take that.”
Maria was wrongly accused of theft and faced criticism from her classmates. Despite the real thief being eventually identified, many people still regarded Maria as a thief.
Grace said in a serious tone, “Don’t worry about it. It’s all in the past. Pick whatever you want. I can cover the bill. Just don’t steal anything.”
Maria bit her bottom lip and could not be bothered arguing with Grace. Many people knew the truth, including Grace. However, Grace deliberately brought it up to slander Maria.
Maria did not want to waste one more minute on Grace, so she strode toward the door.
When Maria was about to reach the door, a saleswoman walked over to stop Maria’s way, saying, “Stop there”
