Thiago, standing not far away, was furious at first and thought Whitney intended to make trouble. When he saw her shining like this, however, he had complicated feelings. He was mad at her, but her performance also moved him. If it weren’t for their previous relationship, he might have fallen in love with her. Her majestic beauty and aura were beyond the reach of ordinary people.
“Why didn’t I realize how outstanding she was before? Quincey’s lacking in comparison, thought Thiago.
At the close of Whitney’s performance, she was met with applause. Even Thiago found himself clapping involuntarily. When he realized it, he
grew sulky.
Quincey felt defeated and couldn’t contain her anger. She stepped back, wanting to flee, but whitney was not about to let her off so easily.
“Quincey, you claimed you composed this song.” Whitney began, amusement in her tone. “Yet there are mistakes in the lyrics, and it’s off–key. If it were truly yours, that shouldn’t happen, should it?”
Around them, people whispered and snickered, making Quincey blush with embarrassment. She caught sight of Thiago watching from a distance and waved, desperate for an anchor. “Thiago…”
At first, Thiago had no intention of getting involved so soon. He felt uncomfortable being summoned like that but kept his expression neutral
The crowd hushed as he spoke. All eyes, Whitney’s included, turned to him. Whitney’s slight smile betrayed her curiosity about his next move
-would he deceive Quincey?
“What do you think this is? If you’re not here to work, get out,” Thiago barked, and everyone resumed their obligations. He approached Whitney, each step revealing more of his regard for her. ‘Why hadn’t he noticed her allure before?”
Quincey hurried to his side, reaching for him, but he sidestepped her. Her face darkened at the rebuff, but she still followed him, feigning indifference. At last, Thiago halted before Whitney.
“Have you had enough? Is this somewhere you can just come and cause trouble?” he asked.
Whitney sneered and looked straight at him. “Am I causing trouble?” She pivoted, grabbed a lawyer’s letter from a table, and handed it to Thiago. “Your sister and this woman beside you spread rumors about me. Don’t I have the right to seek justice?”
Thiago received the lawyer’s letter without any expression on his stern face. “I will handle this matter myself and give you an explanation. But if you think you can get Indigox’s cooperation by making a scene, then you’re too naive.”
“Dol seem the type to resort to such tactics?” Whitney threw a glance at Quincey, who lingered behind Thiago like a frightened bird.
Thiago didn’t want to keep talking. “That’s enough. You should leave our company now anyway. I don’t want this to continue.”
Whitney felt disappointed. It was clear Quincey was the wrongdoer, yet Thiago was dismissing her for Quincey’s sake. She thought, ‘This man is such a letdown. Why couldn’t he see Quincey’s true nature?”
Cindy took Whitney’s hand, urging her to go. Whitney understood but remained dissatisfied. She walked up to Quincey and whispered venomously, “It’s been a year. You’re still not his wife. Your love… it’s pathetic. He’s always seen you as nothing more than a mistress.”
With her point made, Whitney strutted away, leaving a pallid Quincey with tears brimming. Quincey sought Thiago’s comfort, but he only glared back, visibly annoyed.

Megan, fearing repercussions if Quincey married Thiago, immediately jumped to Quincey’s defense. “Thiago, I’m to blame. Quincey had no
part in it.”
Thiago’s reprimand was severe. “You admit your mistake; why then proceed with it? Consider how it reflects on our family.”
“But, Thiago…” Megan protested.
Quincey intervened, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let Megan-
Thiago cut her off, his disdain evident. “Enough. I’ll drive you home. Stay out of the company. You’re of no use here.”
Quincey could see that Thiago didn’t want to hear any explanation, so she immediately stopped talking and followed him out of the
company.
After getting in the car, Thiago didn’t say a word throughout the journey. Quincey was confused and began to panic. After all, Thiago rarely treated her like this. He had changed since Whitney reappeared. There was only one step away from being Thiago’s wife. She couldn’t let Whitney ruin her plan. The title of Mrs. Mackenzie could only be hers.
When they arrived at the building, Thiago stopped the car, but Quincey didn’t want to get out. “Do you want a cup of coffee with me at my place?” she asked.
Thiago turned his head and said expressionlessly, “Quincey, stay away from Whitney from now on. Don’t meddle in her affairs.”
“But-“Quincey protested.
“No buts.” Thiago’s eyes became sharp, and his firm gaze told Quincey it was irrefutable.
Quincey immediately stopped talking. As soon as she got out of the car, Thiago drove away without reluctance. She watched his car leave and frantically smashed her bag on the ground. “Whitney, why did you come back? You should have died when you left!” Quincey shouted.
Her eyes
were red and full of hatred.
When Whitney returned to the company, she soon saw that the videos of herself at Mackenzie Corporation were posted on the Internet and got a lot of likes. However, the videos from a year ago were also posted, and many people started cursing Quincey like crazy.
Cindy noticed Whitney’s subtle emotions and said, “Things turned out great, but you’re not very happy. You don’t still have hopes for that scumbag, do you?”
Whitney smiled and shook her head. Truthfully, she was laughing at herself for being affected by Thiago’s favoritism toward Quincey. ‘What a disappointment,‘ she thought to herself. “No, I’m just becoming more disappointed with him,” she said.
“Only when you have expectations can you be disappointed. It’s none of your business.” Cindy patted Whitney on the shoulder and said, “You’ve already lost once. Now, you shouldn’t think about anything except winning back.”
