“Lysander?”
Josiah didn’t get a response.
“Lysander?”
“Yes. I’m here,” Lysanderfinally replied.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I’m fine.”
“Mrs. Thorne might not have much time left. I’ll sort things out here and come back to be with you as soon as I can.”
Lysander said, “I don’t need your company.”
That afternoon, she took a week off from the hospital and headed straight to the airport.
By the time she returned to Harborbrook, it was already the early hours of the following day.
She hailed a cab and headed straight for the hospital.
The nurse at the reception desk was somewhat taken aback when she saw her. “Dr. Thorne, you’re back?”
she asked.
“Um, could you please help me find out which ward a patient named Molly is in?”
“All right, just a moment… Thirteenth floor, bed 63.”
“Thank you.”
In the wee hours, the hospital was scarcely populated. She went straight up to the thirteenth floor, but the ward was deserted.
“Lysander?”
Josiah strode over quickly, his gaze filled with surprise and uncertainty. “Why did you suddenly come back?”
Lysander herself didn’t know how to explain.
She asked outright, “How is she?”
“Who?”
“Molly.”
“She’s receiving treatment in the ICU,”

Josiah pulled her into his arms. “Take a rest. You don’t have to speak if you don’t want to. I won’t ask anymore. I’ll have Carol take you home first. I might not be able to make it home tonight, so you go ahead and wait for me there, okay?”
With that, he pulled out his phone and made a call.
Lysander stopped him. “Take me to see her.”
“Mrs. Thorne?”
Lysander nodded.
With a puzzled expression, Josiah asked, “Did you come back specifically for Mrs. Thorne? Did you two have any connections before?”
“Josiah…” She lifted her head, her eyes red. “Take me there, now.
Josiah gazed at her intently and nodded. “All right.”
His coat still retained his body heat, and she felt comforted.
Josiah swept her up in his arms, coat and all, and together, they headed to the ICU.
The first person to see them was Susan.
“Did you get the medical records? This is–Susan was taken aback for a moment. “Lysander?”
Lysander tugged at the corner of her mouth. “Hi, Madam Susan.”
“You look unwell. You’re practically ashen!” Susan chided Josiah with a light slap. “Lysander is sick, yet you still refuse to let her go. Have you lost your mind? Why on earth did you bring her back from Stounia. when she was doing just fine there? Are you trying to ruin her career as well?”
Josiah didn’t even attempt to dodge, enduring several hits. He then gently tightened his suit jacket around Lysander.
Susan’s voice was far from quiet, which was overheard by Howard and Lysanne, who were keeping vigil outside the ICU.
Immediately, tears started pouring down Howard’s face like a heavy rain. He stumbled toward Lysander, nearly falling over. “Lysa…” he croaked out.
Lysanne hurried over to help. “Dad, what are you doing? Please, get up…
Susan also stepped in to help. “That’s right, Howard. The ground is cold.”
Yet, Howard seemed to turn a deaf ear to it all, practically throwing himself at Lysander’s feet and reaching out to grasp her. “Lysa! Lysa…”
Backing away with Lysander in his arins, Josiah wore a guarded expression. “Mr. Thorne, what are you doing?”
