Lysander retorted, “Fine. If you say he came, then he must have. But why did you make such a fuss and call everyone here? To let them see him in my room? But what does it matter even if he was here? Other than us, no one knows about my relationship with him. Even if everyone saw him, we could simply say he’s a new friend I was having a chat with-

“How could it just be a chat? After all, he drank

“What did you drink?”

Lysanne bit her lip. “How did he leave, exactly?”

“He jumped into the sea.”

Lysanne’s eyes widened in shock. “Jumped into the sea? Did he really jump into the sea for the sake of your reputation?”

With a cool voice, Adrian asked, “Are you done?”

He then pointed at the girl standing behind Lysanne. “Where did you find her? What’s your intention of bringing her on board?”

Lysanne was seething with frustration. “Adrian, do you think you’re playing the hero, saving the damsel in distress? All these years, you’ve held her in your heart, but has she ever truly seen you? She’s nothing but an emotionless monster! She doesn’t care for Josiah, and she certainly doesn’t care for you. She’s just a cold–blooded creature without a heart! Why is it that all of you are ready to live or die for her

“Enough!” Adrian was also getting angry. “What does it matter to you whether she’s cold–blooded or not? Take that person with you and leave immediately!”

Initially, Lysander was leaning against the door, curious about what Lysanne was up to. However, Adrian pushed her, sending her into the cabin. Then, with a thud, he closed the door from the inside.

Once the door was closed, he settled down on the couch. His tone was less than pleasant when he said, “Ignore her. Sit down.”

The

space on the couch was limited, so Lysander didn’t approach him. Instead, she chose to sit at the edge of the bed not too far away.

Adrian knew she was deliberately keeping her distance from him. The gloom in his eyes deepened. “Did Josiah really jump into the sea?”

Lysander shook her head, pointing toward the window. “He climbed up from the window. He should be up on the deck catching a breeze now.”

Adrian pulled out a piece of napkin from the table and handed it to her. “Wipe it off.”

“What?”

“Your lipstick is smudged,” he said.

he here attending the wedding with her? What on earth is he thinking? On one hand, he’s relentlessly pursuing you, yet on the other, he seems to be unable to sever ties with his childhood sweetheart. Does he want to have both of you? Such good fortune doesn’t exist in this world.”

Lysander sighed, shaking her head. “I really don’t know what he’s thinking.”

Adrian glanced at her swollen, red lips, then turned his face away in frustration. “So, what were you thinking?” he asked resentfully.

“Obviously, I don’t want to have any further involvement with him.”

“In that case, why did you let him kiss you?”

“He was drugged,” Lysander said. “It must have been Lysanne’s doing. Josiah told me that ever since Lysanne discovered she couldn’t conceive, she somehow found a girl who looked a lot like me. She planned to have this girl bear a child for Josiah, and then raise it as her own.”

“Ridiculous!” Adrian scoffed coldly. “Surrogacy is illegal. Isn’t she a lawyer? Doesn’t she know that herself?”

“Perhaps, if she didn’t use her own reproductive cells, it wouldn’t be considered surrogacy?”

Adrian gradually came to understand something. “She drugged Josiah, then brought that girl onto the ship, intending for Josiah to mistake her for you, and then get that girl pregnant?”

“I guess.

That makes sense. That way, Josiah will no longer have a reason to look for you.” Adrian suddenly paused before questioning, “However, if that was the case, why would she bring people over and publicly try to expose your relationship with Josiah?”
