Chapter Forty–Seven: Welcome Back

After the twins had left me to my own thoughts a little while ago with a kiss on each cheek, which had me clutching both sides with a manic smile on my face for the past hour, I was contemplating making a run for it back to Crescent Haven.

I sat on the edge of my bed, deep in thought. Should I confront Kayden. and Jayden about my feelings, or should I wait for them to make a move? I didn’t want to come off as needy or desperate, but I also didn’t want to miss my chance if they really were my mates. But what if I was wrong? What if they were just being friendly, and I was reading too much into things? I didn’t want to ruin our friendship or what was left of it over the years by making things awkward. I decided to take a break from my thoughts and focus on something else. I grabbed a book from my nightstand and started reading, hoping it would distract me. But every time I tried to concentrate, my thoughts kept drifting back to Kayden and Jayden. I closed the book with a sigh and leaned back against the headboard. Maybe I should just talk to them and get it over with. I couldn’t keep my feelings bottled up forever. But how would I bring it up without making things awkward? I was broken out of my thoughts when I heard a knock on the door.
Maybe it was Kayden and Jayden again? The thought had my cheeks tingling as I quickly patted down my dress and rushed to open the door.
“Expecting someone else, little queen?” Beta Tim said as I opened the door.

I blushed but quickly composed myself and gave him a big smile, and jumped into his arms, hugging him tight. He stumbled back a little, but he caught me and chuckled as I heard Gamma Chris chuckle from the side.
“Goddess! I missed you both so much, Beta Tim. You never visited me in Crescent Haven,” I said, pulling back and pouting.
He chuckled and shook his head as I went to hug Gamma Chris.
“It’s good to have you back, little queen. But from the looks of it, you aren’t so little anymore now,” said Gamma Chris as we pulled back, and he gave me a small smile.
I chuckled at his words. Both of them had been my protectors, more like brothers growing up here. They had never done or said anything to make me feel awkward, and even now, as they looked at me, I could see the respect and brotherly love shining in their eyes for me. I had truly missed them both. I used to tell anyone in Crescent Haven who would listen about Beta Tim and Gamma Chris and how amazing they were, whether it was sparring or just as people.
“Well, I hope so! I’m almost of age and about to find my mate. Didn’t need to be looking small,” I said.
They chuckled and said something under their breath, but I couldn’t catch what they said as I was lifted from the ground and twirled around in circles. I tensed but eventually calmed down when Rex’s scent. invaded my senses. If this were anyone else, their family jewels would be having a chat with my knee right about now.
“Rex, you idiot, put me down!” I said.
But being the douche he was, well, my douche of a best friend, he spun me around faster, making sure I was dizzy as hell and stumbling on my feet when he put me down.

“You know I never missed you! Hell, the worst part about the castle is you!” I said, trying to control the smile on my face as he pulled me into. a big bear hug.
“Yeah yeah, sweetheart! You know you love me,” said Rex.
I pushed him away, smiling, but then he pushed me back into him and smelled my neck, just above where his brother placed his lips, and then moved back with a grin on his face.
“My oh my, little bellá, wanna enlighten us why our king’s scent is on you?” Rex said.
I went still, quickly darting my eyes between him, Beta Tim, and Gamma Chris. I thought I would find worried, hell, even horrified expressions, but all I saw were weird coy smiles, a glint in their eyes.

“Um, ah, um, you see, they just hugged me and um…” I stammered.
What was I supposed to say? ‘Oh hey, Rex, your brothers who practically ignored me growing up were literally on my neck, smelling and kissing me and telling me to call them by their names. Oh, and hey, and all I wanted to do was rip their clothes off and be under them.” Yup! The perfect way to leave your best friend horrified. All three of them chuckled, Beta Tim putting me out of my misery as he spoke up.
“Leave her be, man! She had one hell of a welcome back, I’m guessing,” said Beta Tim.
“Plus, dude, you’re gonna get your ass kicked if you keep it up,” said Gamma Chris, chuckling.
Yup! Definitely bodysnatchers.
No way they could all be fine with this. Hell! These three, including JJ, used to blow gaskets when any guy got near me, and they were all fine and dandy with Kayden and Jayden. Did they not get the memo that they were the ones with the biggest Playboy reputation and needed. saving from? Not like I need saving from them. Hell, I’d be one happy camper if they told me they wanted to f*ck me.
As if on cue, Kayden and Jayden walked in, their smirks widening as they saw the group gathered around me.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Kayden said, walking over and wrapping an arm around my waist.

I stiffened but didn’t push him away. Instead, I looked up at him and
met his eyes. They were filled with amusement and something else that I couldn’t quite place.
“Just catching up with some old friends,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
Jayden walked over and stood on the other side of me, his arm wrapping around my waist as well.
“I’m sure they’re delighted to have you back, little one,” Jayden said, looking around at the group.
Rex snorted and muttered that ‘they were the happiest to have me back‘ under his breath, and I chuckled and shook my head at his antics. That so wasn’t the case.
“What was that, little brother?” Jayden asked
“Nothing,” Rex said quickly, shooting me a warning look.
I frowned but didn’t say anything. This was getting too weird, and I wanted to get out of here.
“Well, we were just about to head out for a run. You guys wanna come?” Gamma Chris said, looking at us.
Kayden and Jayden exchanged a glance before nodding.
“Sure, we could use a good run,” Jayden said.
Beta Tim led the way out, and we all followed, well I was basically dragged along as Kayden’s and Jayden’s hold on my waist didn’t flatter even a second. As we walked, I could feel Kayden and Jayden’s hands trailing down my back, sending shivers down my spine. It wast becoming harder and harder to resist them, and I didn’t know how much longer I could hold out. But at the same time, I didn’t want to make things awkward between us.
