alongside scholar Andrew and rest, and here my two best friends were busy thinking which tom di*k and harry would be taking them to the farewell party.
“You know to get to the party, you both still need passing scores in the Trivia. You don’t want to make a fool in front of the kings and their parents, not to mention our professors.” I said, finally looking up from the thick encyclopedia.
Three long years had passed. Three long years of tears, sweat, and hard work had finally paid off. We started as twelve students three years back, and now only four of us are left. Nine students were excused from the program term after the term when they couldn’t keep up their academic standing. All who were left were me, Riley, Cathy and Shawn. And tomorrow, one out of four of us will be chosen to work alongside our kingdom’s scholars after our eighteenth birthday.
“Yeah, but come on, we all know if anyone is winning the whole trivia thing tomorrow, it’s going to be you. Honestly, if the other students and I didn’t know how smart you are, I would’ve guessed prince Rex was pulling some strings to keep you around.” Cathy said, chuckling

They had been super close to me three years back when I had come; I still cherish the time when I was a Disney fanatic; if truth be told, I was still lowkey obsessed with the happily ever after concept of fairytales-hoping that when my mate came along, it would be something right out of a Disney movie. However, as time passed, I saw less and less of them. They were always there when I was sick or missed my family to the point where I used to stay up crying, but other than that, I hardly saw them. As much as I wanted to chase them and tell them to spend more time with me, I pushed the feelings away. It was wrong; I didn’t need the whole castle to think I had no morals. I didn’t want people to think I had made it so far in the scholarship because the kings favoured their little brothers’ best friend.
“You’re so dramatic, Riley. Now shut it and tell me, the five main years that our monarch’s major state wars against the vampire kingdom are.” I asked Cathy and Riley.
As much as they made me out to be this intelligent person, there was no doubt in my mind Cathy and Riley were just as brilliant as I was and could win tomorrow. Cathy liked being the class clown, whereas Riley was sombre but still goofy when she wanted to be. These two had become my lifelines. I never knew what it meant to have girlfriends until these two. It was our likeness to Disney movies that had made us thick as thieves. I had taken them back to Crescent Haven with me many times and even invited their parents to join us back at my pack. At first, I was a little jealous that my best friend was more into my friend than me but seeing how happy they both were, I tried my best to keep the ugly green monster in me at bay, and after a while, it brought a smile to my face watching the two. I hadn’t told them, but I truly believed they were mates! During our scholarship classes, we were taught about the creation of mate bonds, and whatever JJ and Cathy did were all signs of a potential mate bond. The thought of having Cathy back at Crescent Haven had me all giddy. I just hope Riley could also be mates with one of the wolves back at Crescent Haven, and then we could be together. My mate would hopefully be from there. well. But a little part of me thought that maybe Rex was my mate. He was also so doting and cared about my every little thing, but I didn’t see him like that as much as he cared. But everyone else around us always said that we could be mates because when both of us were together, we didn’t care about the world. It would be absurd to think they were; they were almost a decade and a half older than me. Though I had never seen them. with any she-wolves over the years I’ve been here, I wasn’t sure if they had found their mate or had any girlfriends; but last night, Rex had told me they were out dining with two council members’ daughters, and for some reason, that thought hurt. “Ugh, Kiki! Stop! Not like last-minute cramming is going to get us anywhere. Now stop being a bore and close that book and let’s go for a walk. Anxiety for tomorrow is killing me over here.” Said Cathy breaking me out of my thoughts.
Just as I was about to ignore her and get back to my reading, she slammed the book shut and grabbed it from me. I jumped up trying to get it back, but epically failed when she raised it high in the air. I grunted! Even though it had been three years, one thing had remained almost the same; I was still very short. Not like a toddler short, but people around me were way taller, which included Cathy, Riley, Rex and JJ. The kings were on another level; I kid you not when I say I had to crane my neck to talk to them most of the time.
